Death of Osama Blog

For me Osama Bin Ladens death meant alot. His death is justice for those killed in 9/11 and their families. His death is also justice for all Americans. Osama's death is a great boost for american troops, because they know that they are fighting for a very important reason, Keeping America safe. To me it is a relief to know he can no longer kill anyone. However his death will cause an Uproar in terrorism for awhile. Also his death shows the Al Queda and other terrorist groups that we will find you and we will kill you. Osama's death is an important checkpoint in the war on terror. Although he is dead, terrorism and Al Queda are still very strong and need to be destroyed. Hopefully because of his death the Al Queda will back down and disband having no leader. But most likely a new leader will emerge and try to destroy America. We must not let this happen in my opinion. We should strike Al Queda while they are weak. That time is now. Because of his death people around the globe should feel just a little bit safer. When I heard he was killed, I immediately thought it was just an imposter like before. But as I watched the news I knew they had finally got him. I was overjoyed he was dead. He deserved what he got. Hopefully his death will bring the nation together and destroy hate against muslims in our nation.

Maus/Night Compare Blog

Maus and Night compliment each other because they both give good stories of what happened in the holocaust. Night, however provided me with real examples of someones story, making it the better read of the two. Some reasons for this are, Night was more realistic and had more impact on me. Maus, to me seemed to make a joke of what happened in the Holocaust. I don't see how anyone can depict the Jewish People as mice and make it into a comic book. The idea behind Maus was meant to give the reader a good example of the holocaust, but Night did a better Job overall. If someone asked me what book they I suggest it would be Night, because of its effectiveness to show the reader of the Holocaust.

Restrepo Blogging Assignment

At first in Restrepo the soldiers were having a good time on the train to their destination. This scene brought Fallen Angels to life because at first in the book they were scared but still had no clue what they were getting in to.

Seeing how the men in the movie reacted when they killed someone was similar to when the soldiers in Fallen Angels killed someone because they felt they had avenged the deaths of their friends and fellow soldiers.

When the soldiers in Restrepo were injured it reminded me of the way the soldiers in Fallen Angels reacted. For example, when Perry was injured he reacted the same as when one of the soldiers in Restrepo did.

In Restrepo the soldiers cried and mourned each others deaths as they did in Fallen Angels. It gave me a visual for what they go through.

In Fallen Angels they talk about how the war affected the civilians, In Restrepo I saw how much the innocent civilians are affected.

Seeing the relationships the soldiers had with each other showed me how close and how hard death is to the soldiers in both Fallen Angels and Restrepo.

In Fallen Angels, the soldiers tried to get the villigers to be on their side, this also occured in Restrepo. This showed me that in every war this is neccesary.

In Restrepo the soldiers relied and depended on each other as they did in Fallen Angels. This showed me that in order to survive war the soldiers must bond together.

The way the soldiers adapted to the landscape in Restrepo was alot like how they do in Fallen Angels. They had to adapt to the hills, the weather and the tempurature.

In both Fallen Angels and Restrepo the soldiers write to their families, and lie to them about their situations.

Reading Fallen Angels and watching Restrepo has showed me so much about war that I didn't know such as, the changes the soldiers go through and how good and bad of an experience war truely is. An example of a change the soldiers go through is when in Restrepo the soldiers have to deal with the deaths of their friends and fellow soldiers. That is a great example and probably the most life changing thing the soldiers deal with. Not only the soldiers in these two stories but soldiers in general have to experience alot of good and bad things. Examples of the good experiences are, the soldiers get to meet new people and learn how to become a man. Examples of bad are, the loss of fellow soldiers, having to kill somebody, and being so far away from home. Not only did war change the soldiers, the stories of war changed me.

Fallen Angels

First Draft of Fallen Angels Paper
2/28/11
Cas Woosley

The theme of this story is that War changes soldiers in many different ways. The author made this theme because he wanted the reader to have a realistic idea of war. The soldiers in this story went through so much pain together which made them as close as brothers.
When the squad first arrives in Vietnam, they are oblivious to what war is truly like. But when Jenkins dies everything changes. I believe the author had Jenkins die this early to put the true effect of war on the soldiers. Perry especially was affected by Jenkins death because it was the first person he had seen die, also it happened right in front of him. After this, the realization of war hit the soldiers very hard. “Let us fear death, but not let it live within us” (Pg. 44). This quote expresses the theme by giving an example of the changes a soldier goes through.
The Vietnam War continued to change the squad throughout the book. At first they complained about everything at the base, such as the food, the weather, the bugs, and each other. But as the story progressed and seeing how real war was they found peace at the base. The author did this to further express the changes they were experiencing. The soldiers always talked about how the war was going to be over soon, but as more time and more firefights passed they realized it might never end. I believe the author had the characters in the story do this to show how war seems never ending.

This book showed a very detailed explanation of how war changes people. During the firefights I felt so engaged by the authors description it was unbelievable. This was one of the best books I have ever read because of how engaged I got in it. I thought a lot about how the soldiers had to do things they would never even dream of. When Perry first got to Vietnam he thought a lot about everything, such as the Vietnamese and the Vietcong. But as the story progressed he thought less about their lives and more about his. I believe the author did this because he wanted to be as realistic as he could. At first in the story the squad had small racial discrimination but when they went through so much pain together it didn’t matter, they were brothers. I liked how the squad pulled together through the story and worked together to not die. Before reading this book I never knew what war was really like. The author's goal of this story is to show the reader what war is like and what it does to soldiers. The main thing I got from this story was, war turns boys into men. After reading this book I have deeply considered joining the military because it sounds like my kind of place. At first, I didn't know the theme of the story, but the more I got into thinking about it I realized that theme the author wanted to show the reader was, War changes the lives of both civilians and Soldiers. This theme represents the book and what I believe the author wanted me to get out of reading it. When Perry was injured I felt as if I was there along his side fighting among the rest of the squad, it was incredible. Having this feeling made me think about enlisting in the Armed Forces. The character's in this story really brought out the feeling of reality because how close the squad got. When they were offered to mix with the other squads they said no. To me this means they trusted and loved eachother. This shows how powerful the fear of death is. When called in for patrol all they thought about was death. They would do anything to not let themselves or their friends be the ones dead. One thing that really stood out to me in this story was how the lower ranked soldiers treated their leaders. The lower ranked disobeyed their leaders alot and they still lived. This showed me that even the leaders were inexperienced. This book showed me how much can be learned from war and how much can be lost. Also this book showed me how brutal and cruel the vietcong truely were. When the woman threw her mined child onto the soldier I was in shock. The Vietcong were ruthless savages who killed for no reason. I now know why America had to end this war, because if communism had spread the whole world would be corrupt. When Perry and Peewee killed the vietnamese soldier who was only a kid showed that the Vietcong were helpless and used children to fight. This book opened my eyes to war and the world before and after. I believe this is what the Author wanted to happen the readers of this book
